Alan's Edgar Rice Burroughs Page

Welcome to my small contribution to the volume of material pertaining to Edgar Rice Burroughs that is on the web. For the time being I will be converting some of ERB's works, that are in the public domain, to HTML format documents that can be read online or, as I think makes more sense, can be downloaded as a zipped file and viewed offline at your convenience (no sense wasting bandwidth).

These HTML versions are created with a side frame, so you can go directly to a chapter. The side frame also allows you to adjust the line width to a comfortable reading length. Using the whole screen, especially with a resolution of 800x600 or higher, makes the line length too long for comfortable reading. To use these HTML texts, simply unzip the archive into its own folder, or to a diskette. Then open the index.htm file with your browser. I hope you enjoy these versions and I welcome any comments.

Pellucidar Series

This is "At the Earth's Core", the first of six volumes that Burroughs set in the world of Pellucidar. This contains 8 scanned illustrations by J. Allen St. John. If you want you can read it online or download a zipped copy. If you prefer the zipped version you can have it with text and 8 pictures from the original volume or just the plain HTML version, sans pictures. The latter is 122K zipped and expands to 278K; the former is 353K zipped and expands to 509K. If you want your own copy, click on the image to the left to purchase from Amazon.com.
"Pellucidar", the second book of the series. It continues David Innes' adventures in the inner world. Read it online, or download the zipped version (148 kb download, unzips to 340 kb). If you want your own copy, click on the image to the left to purchase from Amazon.com.

Mars Series

"A Princess of Mars" - The first book of ERB's Mars series and my personal favorite ERB book.  John Carter, a Virginian gentleman, is transported to Mars full of strange races and amazing adventures.  Read it online or download the zipped version (179 kb, unzips to 405 kb.) If you would like a physical copy of the book, click on the image to the left to purchase it from Amazon.com.

Caspak Series

"The Land That Time Forgot" - The first book of Burrough's Caspak series.  This series is short, 3 books, but is one of my favorites, not least because it is shorter and more complete.  It is also one of ERB's most imaginative series, IMHO. Read it online or download the zipped version (99 kb, unzips to 256 kb.) If you want your own copy, click on the image to the left to purchase from Amazon.com.

People Out of Time

"People Out of Time" - The second book of Burrough's Caspak series.   Read it online or download the zipped version (97 kb, unzips to 252 kb.) If you want your own copy, click on the link to the left to purchase from Amazon.com.
